George Washington has at least one record to his name which no successor of him can take from him. He is and will remain the first president of the United States. His main goal was to keep the peace between the two parties. It was thanks to his merit that the roots for the city of Washington D.C. were laid.

In general

George Washington will not only go down in history as the first president of America, he also has a number of other records to his name. He was the first to appoint the Supreme Court. He was (and is) the only presidential candidate who had all the electors behind him during two nominations.

George Washington, Washington, United

On April 30, 1789, George Washington, as the first president of the United States (then 10 more), was sworn in. He was born on February 22, 1732 in Virginia, the son of Augustine Washington, a planter, and Mary Ball Washington. His grandfather was migrating from Northern England to the New Land. After his father and older half-brother Lawrence had died, he inherited the Mount Vernon plant in 1752. Very little is known about the first years of his life.

He was trained as a surveyor and a soldier. In the early 1750s, there were riots between England and France about colonial aspirations in North America. Washington is building a fortress at Pittsburgh against the fortress of the French, but unfortunately he must quickly give up.

During the outbreak of the Franco-Indian war, Washington accompanied General Braddock to capture Ohio from the French. Washington, despite the defeat, proved his leadership. This earned him the promotion to colonel and commander-in-chief of the Virginia Militia.

A political career re

He was elected to the House of Burgesses in 1758. He is increasingly concerned with politics. In 1775 he was elected commander-in-chief of the US Revolutionary Army and revolted against the British rule. In 1781 he was commander of the troops that forced the British to surrender and the war-acts came to an end.

Washington family man

In 1759 he married a widow, Martha Dandrige Custis. This very good party from that time was in the possession of the estate The White House with vast lands. Martha already had two children who adopted Washington:

  • John Parke Parke and John Park
  • Martha, The Martha

George as President

In 1789, the now 57-year-old Washington was elected as the first president of the new republic. His goal was to preserve unity between all parties. He has held a second term, a third he refused. Actually, he didn’t want to be president at all, but he’s the only candidate ever to have all the electors behind him, during both the first and second election. He was the first (and probably will remain the only one) president who could appoint the entire Supreme Court. He planted the roots of the federal capital, the ultimate Washington DC.

For the years he was president, he continued to behave like a modest landowner. He lived in New York and not at the White House. The president who held regular receptions in invariably injure it at 9 p.m., because this was the time when the president went to bed. His nickname was Father of His Country.

After his President’s office

He has been able to enjoy his retirement for less than three years. He died of a throat infection after a ride with his horse in bad weather on December 14, 1799. He is buried in a family grave on his estate. Four months of mourning were declared in the Nation.

Posthumously, George Washington was promoted retroactively to the highest rank of the U.S. Army in 1976; General of the Armies. To this end, Congress passed a special law.
